How all this started!

Chung Ju-yung, the founder of Hyundai started this business in 1947 and was born in the year 1915. He was the eldest son of a poor peasant farming family. The word Hyundai means ‘modern times’ in Korean language. success did not come immediately, he worked in various jobs. The first experience in entrepreneur came in 1938 when he started his own rice store. Due to certain reason he has stopped doing it.  In 1946 Chung Ju-yung started his engineering and construction company and by this he has got many contracts from the government and  became responsible for building much of South Korea’s transportation. He has also won many various contracts from American military.

The company’s first model was Cortina which was released in cooperation with Ford Motor Company in 1968. Then the next model was Pony and this model was exported to Canada but not United States as it didn’t pass its emission standards. In Canada, Pony went on to become one of the top selling cars in Canadian market. And then in 1985, one millionth car day was built and in the following year the upgraded version of pony model was sold in US. In 1996, Hyundai motor Pvt. Ltd. Was established for production plant in Irungattukottai near Chennai, India. Chung transferred his leadership of Hyundai motors to his son in 1999. And now, Hyundai vehicles are sold in 193 countries through some 6000 dealerships and showrooms worldwide.

So always remember that,

“It is failures rather than successes that teach us invaluable lessons – it is not necessary to remember one’s success. That should be remembered by others instead. Rather, we should remember our losses and failures – those who forget their failures will again and again.”
